Drop in Meditation Classes in Houston, Montrose, The Heights and The Woodlands

Each class consists of guided meditation, a talk on an aspect of meditation and buddhist thought, and an opportunity to discuss and ask questions. Great for beginners as well as those with some experience. Classes are self-contained so you can drop in to an individual class or attend the whole series. Everyone is welcome! A great opportunity to learn how to meditate and to integrate a meditation practice into your daily life. Meditation classes for everyone.

All classes for the month of September are by donation, due to the hurricane. No Regular Class fee. Just drop in – no need to sign up in advance. At other times classes are $10/class or $35 for a 4 class pass.

This class consists of a guided meditation with prayers for cultivating inner peace. Suitable for everyone. No experience necessary. Just drop in. $10/class

By learning to cherish others we can experience greater peace of mind and help establish world peace in general. Through contemplating these prayers compiled by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso from traditional sources, we learn to cherish others. If everyone sincerely prays to be able to cherish others, then gradually through the power of this prayer, everyone will actually cherish each other. The world will then be permanently at peace, and pure and everlasting happiness will pervade the entire world.

nordensqaure-lightenedGen Kelsang Norden is a senior ordained teacher of Modern Buddhism. She was requested by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche to teach at Kadampa Meditation Center in Houston. Ordained as a Buddhist nun in 1994, Gen Norden has been teaching Buddhism and meditation in the US and the UK for over 20 years. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy the precious dharma of Modern Buddhism with such an experienced practitioner.


Rusty Smith is a student of the renowned Buddhist teacher and author Ven Geshe Kelsang Gyatso and a representative of Kadampa Meditation Center (KMC) Houston.




Do I have to be a Buddhist to benefit from meditation?
No. Anyone can learn basic meditation and experience the benefits that come from having a peaceful mind. At KMC Houston, we respect all people and are happy to help anyone, regardless of whether they subscribe to another faith, or to none.

Do I need to have experience in meditation or Buddhism to attend the classes?
No. All you need is the wish to improve yourself and the quality of your life.

What do I need to bring to class?
Nothing in particular, just yourself; though you can bring a pen and notepad if you want to take notes.

How should I dress for class?
Dress in the best representation of yourself!

Do I need to bring a yoga mat or anything like that?
No. Chairs are provided.
