2017 NKT-IKBU INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS:

Every year NKT-IKBU organizes world wide Kadampa festivals on Buddhism and meditation that explain how to apply Buddha’s teachings (Dharma) to modern living. These include International Festivals, and National Festivals. These Buddhist Festivals and Dharma Celebrations provide a precious opportunity to study and practise the special presentation of modern Buddhism taught by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the Founder of NKT.

The events vary in length from two days to two weeks, but whatever their duration they all offer a vacation with a difference – a chance to break free from the hectic routines of daily life and focus on the things that really matter. You will come away not only refreshed and relaxed but also spiritually re-energised.


Fall Festival – October 6 – 12, Germany

Blessing empowerment of Buddha Avalokiteshvara and teachings on Universal Compassion.At this festival, Gen-la Dekyong will explain the essential practices of training the mind (Lojong) based on Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche’s book Universal Compassion. The practices of training the mind are exceptionally powerful methods for overcoming our delusions, especially our self-cherishing, and for gaining deep realizations of conventional and ultimate bodhichitta. In this way, we can attain the real meaning of our human life – enlightenment.

Our New Resident Teacher

Gen Kelsang Norden is a senior ordained teacher of Modern Buddhism. She was requested by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche to teach at Kadampa Meditation Center in Houston. Ordained as a Buddhist nun in 1994, Gen Norden has been teaching Buddhism and meditation in the US and the UK for over 20 years. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy the precious dharma of Modern Buddhism with such an experienced practitioner.

HOW TO MEDITATE

The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful.

If our mind is peaceful, we will be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we will experience true happiness; but if our mind is not peaceful, we will find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions. If we train in meditation, our mind will gradually become more and more peaceful, and we will experience a purer and purer form of happiness. Eventually, we will be able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.
