ABOUT FOUNDATION PROGRAM OPEN ENROLLMENT

Open enrollment dates are the best time to join Foundation Program (FP).  So students can understand the commitments of this program, we offer a three class open enrollment period to help you decide if you’d like to formally join FP  (March 8, 15, and 22nd).

Enrolling in FP means you become a ‘Foundation Program member’ of KMC Houston.  The fees include FP and all other general program classes with your monthly $75 membership. You may also contact Lisa Levine, our Foundation Program (FP) coordinator at, [email protected] if you are interested in joining outside the open enrollment period.

ABOUT FOUNDATION PROGRAM
Foundation Program (FP) is perfect for those who have some basic understanding of Kadampa Buddhism through our weekly “General Program” (GP) classes, and who have a wish to learn more through a deeper commitment to their practice. The regular teachings, meditation, systematic study and group discussion, mean that the FP offers support and structure to our spiritual life. This program creates an opportunity to gain authentic experience of Dharma within our modern lifestyle. Warm friendships develop as students inspire each other, sharing insights and experiences of the spiritual path.

The success of the program lies in the manageable commitment each student makes, and the clear structure of study. Students sign up to study a book or part of a book, agree to attend each class, learn the material, and to take a test at the conclusion of the study. Classes are currently meeting once a week for two hours.

WHAT HAPPENS AT CLASS?
Each week students study an assigned section of text which is usually just a few pages, and try to remember the essential points. The class begins with chanted prayers followed by a guided meditation. The teacher then reads the assigned portion of the book and gives commentary. The students then break into pairs to discuss their understanding of the material. The class concludes with time for questions and then dedications.
