Drop in Meditation Classes in Houston, Montrose, The Heights and The Woodlands

Each class consists of guided meditation, a talk on an aspect of meditation and buddhist thought, and an opportunity to discuss and ask questions. Great for beginners as well as those with some experience. Classes are self-contained so you can drop in to any individual class. Everyone is welcome! A great opportunity to learn how to meditate and to integrate a meditation practice into your daily life. Our current topic is:

Habits of Happy People

Happiness is something that each one of us has the potential to experience, but often our habitual ways of thinking take us in the opposite direction. In this talk we will learn about some of the habits of happy people that will enrich our life’s experience. We will explore several meditations and ways of thinking that uplift the mind and how by carrying these with mindfulness into our day we can maintain a light, joyful attitude whatever life throws our way. Everyone welcome. Meditation classes for everyone.

MEDITATION CLASSES


Mondays, 7:30 – 9:00pm |  Bering United Methodist Church, 1440 Harold St, MONTROSE
Parking is behind the Church, enter on Mulberry St. 

Each class contains a talk, guided meditation, discussion and Q and A.  Suitable for everyone – no experience necessary. Everyone is welcome. Just drop in.

$12 per class, pay at the door. We are a 501(c)3 non profit org.

Learn practical methods to eliminate negative states of mind, and experience emotional freedom, stability, peace and joy.

OUR TEACHER

Gen Kelsang Wangpo is a Western Buddhist monk that has been studying and practicing Kadampa Buddhism under Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s guidance for many years.

He arrived in Houston after teaching in Connecticut, California, and Washington state. He brings a wealth of experience with him and his heartfelt teachings are presented with clarity and humor that make them accessible to everyone. Gen Wangpo provides an inspiring example of a modern Buddhist practitioner we can follow.

 


FAQS Do I have to be a Buddhist to benefit from meditation? No. Anyone can learn basic meditation and experience the benefits that come from having a peaceful mind. At KMC Houston, we respect all people and are happy to help anyone, regardless of whether they subscribe to another faith, or to none.

Do I need to have experience in meditation or Buddhism to attend the classes? No. All you need is the wish to improve yourself and the quality of your life.

What do I need to bring to class? Nothing in particular, just yourself; though you can bring a pen and notepad if you want to take notes.

How should I dress for class? Dress in the best representation of yourself!

Do I need to bring a yoga mat or anything like that? No. Chairs are provided.
