with special guest teacher, Buddhist Monk, Gen Rigpa

Friday, March 29 | 7:309PM

There are so many uncertainties in our daily life and we can often get caught up on what has happened or what could happen and become worried and unhappy. During this talk, discover how modern Buddhism can help us to recognize the underlying causes of our worry and learn methods to let go and develop more beneficial attitudes.
Gen Kelsang Rigpa is an American Buddhist monk and close disciple of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. He has received lineage blessings and oral transmissions directly from him. Gen Rigpa is the Western US National Spiritual Director for Kadampa Buddhism and the Resident Teacher of Kadampa Meditation Center Hollywood in California. Gen Rigpa’s heartfelt and practical teachings are presented with warmth and humor, making them accessible to everyone. He shows the joy of living a spiritual life and is an inspiring example of Buddhism in action.

Our New Resident Teacher

Gen Kelsang Norden is a senior ordained teacher of Modern Buddhism. She was requested by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche to teach at Kadampa Meditation Center in Houston. Ordained as a Buddhist nun in 1994, Gen Norden has been teaching Buddhism and meditation in the US and the UK for over 20 years. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy the precious dharma of Modern Buddhism with such an experienced practitioner.

The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful.

If our mind is peaceful, we will be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we will experience true happiness; but if our mind is not peaceful, we will find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions. If we train in meditation, our mind will gradually become more and more peaceful, and we will experience a purer and purer form of happiness. Eventually, we will be able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.
